Welfare Benefits Caseworker

Tower Hamlets Law Centre helps some of the most vulnerable people in London’s East End. Since our foundation in 1975, we have earned a fine reputation amongst our clients and supporters as skilled and determined legal advisers to the local community.

We are currently seeking an experienced welfare benefits caseworker to join our busy team. As well as thorough knowledge of welfare benefits law, you’ll have a talent for explaining complex legal ideas in simple language and the ability to manage a demanding workload.

We are particularly interested to hear from you if you would like to develop a career in social welfare law and happy to discuss ways in which we can support your career progression, including the SQE – the new route to qualification as a solicitor from September 2021.

Although it’s not essential, it would be great if you could speak a second language as well as English – particularly of one of the law centre’s client communities.

To apply, please complete the application form in our recruitment pack and return it to recruitment@thlc.co.uk by Sunday 19 June 2022.

Senior Administrator

We’re looking for a Senior Administrator to join our busy administration and reception team. Reporting to our Office Manager, you’ll pitch in with a wide range of jobs that are essential to keeping the law centre running smoothly, including greeting clients, taking telephone calls, dealing with emails, and receiving and dispatching documents.

You’ll be the first point of contact for clients who are often under great stress because of the problems they are facing. So you’ll need to be sympathetic and patient, while firm enough to make sure you have a clear understanding of their needs and can explain the service we offer.

You’ll take lead responsibility for making sure our diary systems are all working properly, so that we have an accurate picture of who is doing what, when and where! And you’ll also make sure our IT and business equipment is working properly, liaising with our IT consultants and engineers when something needs to be fixed.
