Can we help you resolve a work problem?
The Law Centre is non-for-profit, specialist provider of advice, casework and representation for employees and workers in relation to employment and discrimination law. We are a specialists service so our focus is on tribunal proceedings for discrimination.
Legal advice clinic
Our employment and discrimination law legal advice clinic is held every other Monday. You can ask any question related to employment and discrimination law; including proceedings in the Employment Tribunal.
To book a slot on our legal advice clinic please call 020 7538 4904. Appointments are offered on a first come first served basis; until we are booked to capacity. If you are unsuccessful for one session, you can call back to try to get booked on a following session.
Representation – duty advice in East London Employment Tribunal
We represent individuals who have preliminary hearings before the East London Employment Tribunal. These hearings are usually held on a Monday, and can be in person or virtual. We can help with administrative hearing (e.g. setting the case up for final hearing) or other matters such as whether you have a disability, defending an application for strike-out or deposit order, applying for orders such as disclosure or default judgments.
To request representation at a preliminary hearing, please either email EmploymentDuty@THLC.co.uk or complete our contact form. You will not get booked onto this service by calling reception.
Casework
Due to demand for our services far outstripping our capacity, we strictly prioritise casework in accordance with our case criteria.
We do not offer full casework in the following circumstances:
a) Your case is about whistleblowing (suffering a detriment due to making a protected disclosure).
b) Your case is about TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (as amended)). This is a specialist area of law and we recommend you look for a solicitor with specific expertise.
c) Your at an early stage. As we are a specialist service, so we tend to get involved in the latter stages which may include Early Conciliation, lodging a Tribunal claim and full Tribunal representation. If you’re at an earlier stage than this, you can get advice from our legal advice clinic or see our list of alternative generalist advice services.
We can offer full litigation and representation services if your case can be appropriately funded by legal expenses insurances or a damages-based agreement (aka “no win no fee”). These cases must meet the requirements of having sufficient prospects of success and being sufficiently valuable to justify the resources required to pursue it.
To request casework support, please complete our contact form.
